Vision and mission statement components and how important is it for a company?

Vision and Mission Statement

Vision and mission statement

A good vision and mission statement holds great importance for the company. Your vision statement is the mountaintop of what kind of difference you can make in the world. If any organization has no mission statement, no core values, no organizational chart structure, no job descriptions, or role responsibilities which are the most foundational elements for an organization then they will not receive as much success as other firms with a clear vision and mission statement can achieve. A lot of organizations never seemed to accomplish much actually and one of the reasons I believe is that they don't have a vision or a mission statement or if like they have a vision but they don't write their organization towards the vision so that is what I see as the reason for those organizations not able to accomplish much in the industry. Here we will discuss what the actual vision and mission statement is

Vision Statement

A vision statement should come before a mission statement as it presents the bigger picture. Vision is your dream which you dreamt while you are awake. It is what you want to be in the future. Behind every success, the world has achieved there was a vision behind that. In 1901 Ford Motors was established and Henry Ford’s vision was to commercialize the cars because at that time the cars were only used by only a few rich people. Now he has achieved his vision of commercializing cars and even middle-class people have cars of their own. Just like Henry Ford the history is full of people who have achieved their vision.

  • Keep as many managers (HR manager, Marketing manager, Operation manager, Finance manager, and so on) as you can while making the vision statement for the company because you are not the only one who has to run all operations of the company.
  • Your vision statement should be simple that everyone can understand easily even the sweeper of your company can understand your company’s vision. For example, Walmart is the biggest retail chain store and its vision statement is “Live simple, save money” see how simple is it.
  • The vision of the future for Samsung is “Inspire the World, Create the Future”. Here you can see how simple the vision statement of both successful companies is.

Mission Statement

A mission statement is also called a creed statement, statement of purpose, statement of philosophy, statement of beliefs, and statement of business principles. The mission statement expresses the purpose of any organization’s existence. It defines the business of a company, its objectives, and the way through which it will reach its objective. A mission statement tells about what an organization is and why it exists. It answers the question “what is our business?” It talks about the present situation of the company. Mission statements are usually short-term. A mission statement should have an emotional bond between all employees of a company. It is a longer statement than a vision statement because in it you talk about the reason behind your vision. A mission statement has 8-9 components that should be addressed in the mission statement are as follows.

  • Which product do you make?
  • Which is your target market?
  • Where do you operate geographically?
  • What is the philosophy of your company?
  • What is your concern for employees?
  • What is your concern for the employees?
  • What technology you are using? And so on.

You can check the mission statements of every country on their official websites in company profile through which you can have more idea about it.
